Powerboat courses
New
to the centre in 2012 is a range of RYA powerboat courses using our own
centre console 115hp rib and smaller tiller steer craft.
Courses are run as inland certification at a location close to the centre or Coastal certification run on the welsh coast.
(The coastal award covers more in depth chart and navigation work but will certify holders for inland use as well)
RYA level 1 ‘Start Power Boating’
This
1day course is aimed to be a practical introduction to boat handling
and safety in powerboats. Minimum age of 8 years old (endorsed as
supervised use by an adult until age 16)
RYA Level 2 National powerboat course
This
2day course aims to teach competent boat handling in powerboats and is
often regarded as the ‘driving license’ for powerboats of up to 10
meters in size. Minimum age of 12 (endorsed as supervised use by an
adult until age 16)
RYA Safety Boat Course
The
aim of this 2 day course is to introduce techniques used in powerboats
escorting racing events and race management and cover subjects relating
to the provision of safety cover for watersport training sessions,
including sailing, windsurfing and canoeing. Minimum age of 16 and must
hold the RYA Level certificate.
International Certificate of Competence
It
is a requirement in most European countries that boaters hold the
International Certificate of Competence, (or the ICC as it is more
commonly known), when using both the coastal and inland waterways. It is
essentially the nearest we have to an international driving license for
boaters and often required if hiring vessels abroad. This can be taken
as part of a level 2 course.
Professional boat rescue training – Rescue 3 International
As
part of our work providing professional rescue training as a rescue 3
training provider to the emergency services, we will be offering
tailored boat handling training to professional rescue teams.
During early 2012 Rescue 3 are developing a new range of awards and certification specific to boat and water rescue related environments including flood and swift water situations. Please contact us for further information on email: enquiries@ovac.co.uk or phone 01746 718 436.
