Climbing Instructor Courses

Climbing courses offered at Live the Adventure include the MTE’s Climbing Wall Award (CWA) and Single Pitch Award (SPA) Training (supplied by an external provider) both are essential courses needed to become an indoor and outdoor climbing instructor:

Climbing Wall Award (CWA)

CWA Training Cost £130.00 (inc VAT non-residential)

Climbing Wall Award Abseil Module Assessment Cost £95.00 (inc VAT non-residential).

Before signing up for the Climbing Wall Award (CWA) you will need to meet the following criteria:
•    Candidates need to be registered with one of the home nation Mountain Leader Training boards (MLTE)
•    At least 6 months climbing experience
•    Have climbed on artificial structures at least 15 times, visited 3 different climbing walls and be able to lead climbs on an indoor wall.
•    Minimum age 18 years for assessment but 17 years for training element

Single Pitch Award (SPA) Training

Before signing up for the SPA Training you will need to meet the following criteria:
•    At training – 15 graded routes, led outdoors on leader-placed protection
•    Minimum age of 18 years

The SPA covers supervision of groups outdoors and indoors. So if you know you need to do both and if you have the personal skills in leading and setting up belays outdoors then the SPA is for you. If you do not lead climb outdoors and don’t have the opportunity to acquire the necessary personal skills then the CWA would be for you. Also, you can start the CWA earlier, you can do the training at age 17 whereas the earliest you can do the SPA training is age 18.
