Joining the Academy

Who can join the Academy?

 
In order to enroll for our outdoor instructor training you must be 18 years old or over and able to swim. Some personal previous experience in outdoor activities is preferable but not essential. It is more important that you are enthusiastic and motivated to enable you to gain the most from the outdoor instructor training course. All of the qualifications will be available if you have the personal ability to reach the standard required during the course. Additional follow up courses will be available for any person wishing to complete further training and awards.

How do you book a place?

 
If you want to book a place on a course firstly give us a call to check availability. If places are available we would then recommend arranging a time to visit to the centre where you can have a tour of the facilities, see the accommodation and have an informal interview with the staff. This is so that you can see if you are suited to the course, and also for us to meet you to discuss your requirements.

If you wish to then take up one of the places on the course all you need to do to secure your place is to complete a booking form and return this along with a course deposit.

On receipt of your completed booking form we will confirm a place for you on the course and then forward you a learning agreement, kit lists and anything else you may require to attend the course. If you have decided to take up one of our funding options (see separate page), we will forward the relevant paperwork upon receipt of your booking form to sign and return. A pre-academy day is scheduled approx 4 weeks prior to the course start date.  This enables us to complete all relevant paperwork, governing body registrations and organise your personal kit requirements prior to the start of the course. It also gives you a chance to meet all of the staff and familiarise yourself with the centre.

We know that the outdoor instructor training course requires a commitment of your time and money so you may want to chat about elements of the Academy.
